Fantastic Children's Seuss Books

While I was growing up, just about everyone I knew had a collection of Dr. Seuss books.  They were read to us at school, and our parents had read them to us before we even started preschool.  One of my favorite memories is my grandmother reading “Go Dog, Go” over and over to me, mainly because my favorite part of the book was to yell out for the Ferris wheel to go around again as they did in the story.

Now that I have kids of my own, we also have a collection of Dr. Seuss books for them.  While they are still really young, they enjoy the rhythm of Dr. Seuss books because of their rhyming words.  Even though the books are older than I am, they still are favorites among both children and adults alike because of their silly story lines and made up words.

Just recently, one of the most famous Seuss books, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” was remade into a live action movie starring Jim Carrey.  The movie was a box office hit, and not only was this version of the movie popular but the original cartoon version is still shown on television every year.  Not only do young children watch this movie that is based on a Seuss book, but adults await the showing each year as well.  Seuss stories span the ages and many adults reminisce about their own childhoods while sharing with their children.

My son now has a favorite Seuss book, which is “Go Dog, Go,” which was also mine.  He has always been into dogs and cars, so this book is a perfect combination for him.  He loves to read along, and has even memorized portions of the book which is possible due to the nature of the story telling.  His favorite part is the part about the dogs’ hats, but he also enjoys the “Go around again,” just like his mother.  Not only does he like this book, but he learned to recognize his alphabet letters through Dr. Seuss’s book of the alphabet.  He insisted on reading this book over and over, and to the book’s credit, he truly learned from it.

If you have children, grandchildren, or even just enjoy books you probably have a Dr. Seuss book in your collection.  On days when you are feeling down, pull it out and read it to yourself and I guarantee it will lighten your spirit.  If you read it with a child, you may just learn something too.
