There are many reasons that you might want to increase your reading speed. If you are having the most trouble reading passages quickly, but you are still able to comprehend the parts that you do read, it might be that you need to work on looking at words as single units, instead of being made up of various letters. If you are able to look at each word as a unit, without sounding it out, you are going to have better success when it comes to speed reading. In order to increase your reading speed, and be better able to read faster, you should try to be able to read in this manner.
Another important aspect when it comes to being able to increase your reading speed, is being able to read something only once, without having to go back and read it again for details. If you find yourself constantly going back to re read something you have already read, you are going to want to increase your reading speed by learning to read passages with a better idea of paying attention to detail, and being able to read something without having to go back and reread is an important part of this. You want to be able to read things without having to go back and reread.
