Tips For Chosing The Perfect Books For Children
As a parent, you know that encouraging children to read from an early age is one of the best investments you can make in their future success. A love of books and reading leads to a love of knowledge. In today's information age, knowledge is power.
Studies prove that children who are read to as toddlers, grow up to be kids who do better in English, are better writers and generally score higher on reading comprehension. Communication skills are essential to success in whatever field your child ultimately chooses to pursue. Taking advantage of time spent reading to your children may prove to be one of the most important gifts you can bestow on your child, while providing both you and your child with happy memories of time spent together.
Books for children cover the gamut, that's for sure. Books for children are one of the biggest selling categories in the publishing industry. Any bookstore, online or offline, will make this apparent.
Divided into three main categories, there are books for children suitable for babies and toddlers, four to twelve years old, and for teen and young adult groups.
For babies and toddlers, you'll find an array of story books, with imaginative and colorful illustrations, designed to capture the attention of these little ones.
Today's books for children are so diverse in imagery and story telling, there are more beautiful books than your wallet can sustain. Your local library is another excellent reading resource for your budding reader. You'll soon discover the style of books for children that appeals to your child. You're on your way. There's nothing better than a favorite bedtime story read by Mom or Dad.
Once your child enters school, books will be a beautiful part of life, with your child eager and able to select books for children from the school library and enthusiastic to take a look at classroom assigned books. Keep up the encouragement and reading together.
In the four to twelve age group, books for children begin to focus more on text than illustration. Story books begin to decrease the number of illustrations and increase the amount of text. If you've nurtured reading all along the years, the fascination for childrens books begins to shift from illustrations to text, where the child visualizes the words to pictures concept, letting their own imagination create the pictures.
There are classic books for children, like “Black Beauty” and “The Wizard of Oz”, with illustrations for each chapter, inviting the child to expand on what they see and what they read, “reading between the lines”, for a glorious reading experience via their own imagination. These books for children serve as a transition to the teen and young adult books for children.
With your participation, by the time your child reaches their teens, they'll no longer need your urging to read. They'll see the world of knowledge and enjoyable reading materials before them. In fact, you may not be able to stop them!
