Learn More About Book Reports
When it comes time for my daughter to do book reports in school, you can bet that she’s going to do them entirely on her own. A lot of my friends in school asked their parents or friends for help when they did their book reports, and I know that they never really read the book when they did this. Though I believe that there are many important things in life that you cannot find in a book, there are many books that everyone should read. What these books are will depend on the person, but there are reasons why schools require reading certain books, and I want my daughter to benefit from those books.
I never had a problem doing book reports when I was in school, but perhaps this was because I love to read so much. Though there are certain books that I never got to read because I moved around so much, I always enjoyed the selections my teacher picked out for us. They were other times when we could choose our own books for book reports, and this was when I asked my mother for guidance. She has always been an avid reader, and she was able to do suggest some very good books for me.
When it comes time for your children to do book reports, remember that you should never do the work for them. You can help them decide what information to include within their book reports, and you can also help them learn how to format them, but you should never give them the information to include. You may not think that books are very important, but don’t make this decision for your child. It won’t hurt them to read a few books while they are in school, and learning how to do book reports will help them in other areas as well.
Perhaps the most important reason why children are required to do book reports is because you learn so much more than what was just in the book. You learn how to format a good report, as well as how to decipher and understand what you have just read. Reading comprehension is more important than anyone can imagine. Imagine going through life without being able to understand anything that you read anywhere you go. If someone lacks in reading comprehension, nothing is ever going to be easy for them. Book reports not only teach them reading comprehension, but may also instill a lifelong love of reading. That alone is a great reason to do it.
